The Parish Nurse program was introduced in 2003. The volunteer nurse, Sharon Frazier, identifies and ministers to the unmet health care needs within the church family. She acts as a liaison with community health agencies and assists in clarifying the relationship between health and faith:
"Parish Nursing at our church is totally voluntary. The main focus is on spirituality, wholeness, and the belief that all persons are sacred, and are treated with respect and dignity. All matters are kept in the strictest confidence as well.
My basic functions include personal visits (hospital, home, nursing home), evaluation of needs, to make referrals, coordinate services available, develop support groups (meals, transportation, respite care, small chores, etc, that are needed to any given time), and health advocate (I have gone on visits with members to specialists, hospitals, etc.) and correspondence with cards, and calls. There is also a monthly Blood Pressure check after church.
I am available DAY OR NIGHT at 336-246-7113 (leave a message if I'm not at home) if you have needs, emergencies, have health, personal, medical, medication, or treatment questions, to refer someone for help, to report abuse or neglect, or to look for resources.
I work closely with our minister in meeting the needs as they occur, and appreciate the help of our church members who respond with their gifts of time and talent, and an outpouring of love, in becoming servants of Christ."
